Stripped Off Culture, Acrylic on Canvas, 80x70cm
Growing up in a rather traditional family, my culture plays a big role in shaping my identity. However, with technological advances, I have an increased appreciation for foreign cultures and a lack of my own ― this is also the case with many of my peers. Witnessing my grandparents pray to their ancestors on a daily basis, I recognize the importance of ancestral worship in my culture. In this painting, I want to show how our respect for our traditions is being replaced by admiration for the modern world.
