Up until today, Papua continues to experience the highest rate of human rights violations and conflict in Indonesia, particularly due to unresolved political conflict, racism, and critical development deficits. Despite the aid provided by Jakarta’s central government to improve infrastructure, health, and education, such benefits have yet to bring meaningful changes to population living in remote areas of the island, particularly marginalized groups like the indigenous population. There is a distinctive imbalance in the standards imposed on the urban and remote areas. As a part of the company’s CSR inititative, we built community centers and and safe-house shelters for victims of gender-based violence. The primary material used for this project was Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), mainly chosen for its cost, time, and labor efficiency. Each structure took no more than three to four weeks to complete with minimal skills needed. Due to the lack of skills of the workers in remote areas, I created a simple manual to be used.
